The Odds in the Game of Blackjack

In the game of blackjack, card counting is one of the skills that are needed by the player to do well.

Blackjack popularity with gamblers has been influenced by skill and luck. Playing blackjack can be complex and the dealer in the game has a better chance in winning compared to the players. But what are the odds in a blackjack game?

Blackjack players are confident enough that they understand the odds that are needed in the game. But more often than not, they are usually outwitted in the game. Blackjack odds are often shown on the numbers that predicts the players' chances on winning the game.

Odds are used by the house to gain an edge over the player. Blackjack games in land-based casinos have a casino edge of 8% percent because the dealer always makes the final move.

With this house advantage, the dealer holds the edge of knowing the move of the player before making their own decision. But players need not be disheartened by the casino's edge because knowing the odds in blackjack will actually lower the casino edge to 0.5% percent.

Together with good card counting skills, any player could defeat the dealer. But most casinos are against card counting. But utilizing the basic strategy in blackjack is still allowed. So player has the chance of winning the game by 80% percent.

Learning to predict the odds of busting on a card hit is important in playing blackjack. A lot of online blackjack sites feature a blackjack odds charts that are useful in deciding on what the next move of the player should be.

If the current hand value of the player is 21, they have a 100% percent chance of busting if they hit. The odds of busting goes down as their card hand value decreases. The next important thing to learn is on the chances of being given a Natural 21.

In a two card count frequency table, blackjack players can see on what their chances of having a Hard Standing (17-20), Decision Hands (1-16) and a No Bust.

A lot of players have a 30% percent chance of having a hard standing, 38.7% percent for Decision Hands and 26.5% percent for a No Bust. It is also a good thing to have a general idea on what will be the last card hand of the dealer.

The odds table for this instance usually shows the last hand's value percentage of the dealer. The dealer has a 4.82% percent chance of receiving a natural 21, a 7.36% percent chance for a twenty-one (three cards), 17.58% percent for twenty, a 13.48% percent for nineteen, 13.81% percent for eighteen, 14.58% percent for seventeen and 28.36% percent for sixteen.

Studying blackjack odds can really help the player in the game. Aside from giving the player a general idea of their edge over the dealer, the odds in the game also help players in making wagers.
